June 12, 2019 Annual Cookout Meeting Minutes
The yearly membership renewals were due by March 31. You need to pay your dues for this fiscal year to continue to be a current member in good standing. $15 Sustaining, $10 Full, $5 Associate, $1 Family. You can download the form from the club website (w8lky.org) and mail it to the club P.O. Box listed at the top of the form, or you can attend the next meeting and fill out the form there, and pay your money. The club secretary will have forms for you to use.
The club is accepting donations to help offset the cost of the 2 meter repeater relocation. You can make checks payable to the Alliance Amateur Radio Club: Donation to the Repeater Fund. We are now a 501C-3 Non-profit organization, which would make your donations possible for a tax write-off. We are currently working on the donation tax forms and will have them soon.

5) Treasurer’s Report: Checking $XXXX, Savings $———
6) Review / Approval of May 8, 2019 Meeting Minutes: Reading waived.
7) Officers Reports:
a) President: Ron (KE8HCY) added 4 slides to the Power Point Presentation. He took 3 slides from the ARES Report from the tornado outbreak on Memorial Day. The other slide is from the Mayor’s Proclamation of the week of June 17-23 as Amateur Radio Week for Alliance, Ohio. We will celebrate that with our Summer Field Day in Sebring. We hope to have great attendance for the event. We will be sending out reminder letters to the members who have not paid their membership dues, as our club needs the membership dues to keep running.
b) Vice President: (Doug / KB8DNQ – Andy / AC8JR) Nothing at this time.
c) Secretary: (Dave / KE8JLP) Nothing at this time.
d) Trustees: (Peter / N8IGZ – Howard / K8DXR – Bryan / N8WD) Nothing at this time.
8) Committee Reports:
a) 2 Meter Net (Tomas / KC8ZEH): 5/2 – 10 check-ins, 5/9 – 11 check-ins, 5/16 – 13 check-ins, 5/23 – 12 check-ins, 5/30 – 10 check-ins, 6/6 – 12 check-ins. Hopefully, when we get the repeater up on the tower, we’ll get a lot more check-ins because of the increased range.
b) 10 Meter CW Net (Frank / WA8WHP): We’ve had no recent participation on the CW Net. We need to get more involvement.
c) 10 Meter Sideband Net (John / KD8MQ): Nothing new to report. The band was open very nice last week. We were hearing stations from out west.
d) Homeland Security Net (Lorin / KD8WVE): 6/11 – 8 check-ins, 6/4 – 7 check-ins, 5/28 – barely anyone presumably because of lightening.
e) 2 Meter Repeater (John / KD8MQ): The 2 meter repeater will not be on the tower by field day. We will get everything together and work on it “by invitation only” on our next available weekend. It might not be accomplished in June because of scheduling conflicts. A sample of the type of feed line for the installation was passed around.
f) 440 Repeater (John / KD8MQ): The maintenance on the 440 machine is being pushed forward of the 2 meter tower installation. There were discussions about the need for updated insurance information ASAP.
g) 2019 Field Days (John / KD8MQ): The Summer Field Day starts at 2 P.M. on Saturday and ends at 2 P.M. on Sunday. John would like to meet at Mac Donald’s before heading out to the site. Lunch on Saturday will be from the pizza shop in Sebring, just grabbing some pizzas. Dinner on Saturday night will be pot luck with pulled pork sandwiches. Bring a covered dish. Dinner will be at 6 P.M. on Saturday. Sunday morning breakfast will probably be Mac Donald’s or something like that with a runner going to collect the meals. This year because of time constraints and location, John (KD8MQ) and Tony (KD8BBK) will be pitting up vertical and wire antennas this year. We will be in the Pavilion. There are showers at the location as well as bathrooms. Camping in a camper is available at $15 per night. Pay while you’re there. There will be a caretaker that stops by. They are asking for help in setting up, ranging from organizing equipment to sweeping and mopping. Any help would be appreciated. John said that we will probably start setting up after dinner on Friday and finish the final set up on Saturday before the event officially starts. Contact John or Tony to coordinate any help you can give.
h) Ways & Means (Doug / KB8DNQ – Andy / AC8JR): Discussions were had about the need for smaller Ways & Means projects in the near future that will precede the larger project in the fall.
i) Training Classes (Frank / WA8WHP): Starting on 6 July, at the Alliance City Hospital / Alliance Aultman Hospital in the Café Conference room on the 1st floor, ham radio license classes will be given from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. for 12 weeks. Participants need to bring a flash drive or an SD card with a storage capacity of 1 GB or more for all of your study materials to be saved onto. This service and materials (except for the flash drive / SD card) are provided for free. All we ask is that you’re dedicated to attending all 12 classes, along with studying.
j) 501C-3: (John / KD8MQ): Other than the workup of the donation letter we’re good to go at this point.
9) Old Business:
a) The AARC’s Power Point Presentation has been updated as mentioned above.
10) New Business:
a) 2019 Carnation Festival Grand Parade: We will be doing the Grand Parade event again this year. The time and date are 9 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. on Aug 10, 2019. Just like last year, we will need 10 people to be set up along the Parade route. Also, just like last year, we will meet up before hand at the Rockhill Elementary School at the south end of Rockhill St. Earlier than the start time for the passing out of an itinerary so you can get to your stations before there’s no room for you.
We are looking for a volunteer to Chair / organize the event. Contact Ron (KE8HCY) if interested.
