[w8lky] Field Day Info

HI everyone,
I thought now would be a good time to put out a posting about next weekend’s big event. Of course, I’m talking about ARRL Field Day.
WHAT – Each year, on the 4th full weekend in June, the ARRL sponsors Field Day. It has many purposes, and means something different to everyone. In explaining Field Day, you could call it an emergency preparedness exercise, a contest (after all, we do keep score), or maybe just a great weekend long excuse to get out and socialize with your fellow Hams. You would be right on all counts.
WHERE – This year, we have rented the Youth Tabernacle (pavilion) at the Sebring Campgrounds. We also have access to the Memorial Hall for use of the restroom facilities. We’ve used this facility before, and it is plenty large enough for our purposes.
WHEN – Field Day is always the 4th full weekend in June. This year, it falls on June 22/23. The operating period runs from 2 PM to 2 PM Sunday
CAMPERS – If you are planning to bring a camper for the weekend, the fee is $15/night, payable to the campground. They do have electric, but we are advised that if you are planning to run A/C, to pick a site up close to the electric service panel. I presume they mean up the hill a bit.
STATION LAYOUT – This year, all stations will be set up in the South end of the pavilion. In order to try to minimize inter-station interference, we’ll try to get the antennas laid out as far away from each other as possible.
STATION SETUP – We’ll be setting up antennas on Friday, June 21st, at 6 PM. This year, we will not be setting up the tower, or beam, so things should go quickly. That way we can come out later in the morning on Saturday and just set up the stations
SATURDAY BREAKFAST – The last few years, we’ve met for Breakfast before heading out to the site on Saturday morning. This year, how about we meet at McDonalds on East State St (Across from Memorial Park) at 9 AM?
SATURDAY LUNCH – Around Noon – 1 PM, we’ll order pizza.
SATURDAY DINNER – Around 5 PM, we’ll have a carry in dinner. The menu this year includes Pulled pork, and hot dogs. Everyone should plan to bring something to share.
GOTA – No GOTA station has been planned. Since the intent of GOTA is for a new, or inactive Ham to handle this, I’ll leave that up to whoever wants to do it.
BONUS POINTS – We’ve had a couple folks offer to help with specific bonus point categories.
We can still use some volunteers in the following categories:

  • Public Information Table
  • Message origination to the SM
  • Message Handling
  • Satellite QSO
  • Educational Activity
  • Site visitation by an elected official, or representative of an agency
  • Social Media
  • Safety Officer

LOGGING – We’ll be using N3FJP again this year for logging.

And, that is about it. I’ll send out more info and updates as I get them.
